This month, I reviewed 99 to Beat, a game show hosted by Ken Jeong (The Masked Singer) and Erin Andrews (Fox Sports), airing on Fox. There are 100 people playing 50 games against each other over the course of a season. The loser(s) of each game goes home, and the final winner gets a $1,000,000 prize.
Game 1 (popping oversized balloons to find a lei inside) and Game 2 (melting a block of ice to get the whistle frozen inside) were pretty good.
Game 3 (guessing how much something weighed), however, got a bit repetitious. First were a bunch of cacti. Guess that weight wrong and repeat with something else. Guess wrong again, repeat again.
It’s repeated yet again, while I just wanted to move on to the next game!
Game 4 was fine. But Game 5 was really monotonous! The remaining players were divided into teams. They dumped water into a bucket onto a teammate’s head down the row until the team filled a cylinder with water.
There were three heats of this, and by the third heat, I was thinking, “Another One?!? Ugh!!”
Game 5 was the end of the episode. There are still 45 games (and 84 players) left in the season. That is too many repetitive games to sit through.
So I will not be watching the next episode. I give 99 to Beat 4 out of 10 stars!
