I thought I’d write this month about the lovely lady you see in this photo with me. Her name is Diane Baker and she and I worked together on a popular TV show called “Playhouse 90.”
It was a live show each week and was taped at CBS Television City in Los Angeles. The episode we did was called “In Lonely Expectation” and it was about a home for unwed mothers.
They achieved this effect by putting a padded vest on each of us. It looked much like an apron but attached to it was a small pillow – each pillow differing in size depending on how far along each of us were supposed to be.
Working with Diane was a delight. We hadn’t seen each other since we did the show which was 65 years ago!
The photo was taken last month at a horror convention called Monster Bash in Mars, Pennsylvania. What a joy that was.
Diane has a huge resume. Some of you may remember her from the 1964 Alfred Hitchcock movie “Marnie” or perhaps her role as the older sister of Anne Frank in the George Stevens movie “The Diary of Anne Frank.”
Another role she played was as a distraught Senator in the movie “Silence of the Lambs.” She had one of the leads in the Jim Carrey film “The Cable Guy.” Diane also did 3 films with Joan Crawford, .
Her list of TV shows is also huge, from The Fugitive to The Virginian, The Streets of San Francisco, The Twilight Zone and The Untouchables, just to name a few.
I am so happy and grateful to be back in touch with her after all of these years! In fact, we will get to see each other again in October when we do The Hollywood Show which is a very popular autograph show.
Friendship is truly one of the many blessings we have in life, and to get re-acquainted again after all these years is something that I am truly grateful for.
Diane is a brilliant actress and a beautiful, kind and warm person both inside and out. How lucky I am to now to been able to see her once again. Sadly, neither of us have another 65 years, but I will certainly treasure however long we have left.
Until next time, remember…sometimes the smallest things can take up the most room in your heart.
