Nevada Government – One Sad, Bad Joke Continues. Part III
In an insane world, only the sane are crazy. Nothing better fits this description than the world of Nevada politics and government.
There was a report last week from the Nevada News Bureau that a dozen of our state government entities spent close to $2 million hiring lobbyists in Washington, DC. Can we please take a step back, inhale very slowly and think about this?
Our state government, while facing a budget shortfall of billions of dollars, hires lobbyists to prey upon members of Congress. In effect, our state politicians are paying people to influence our federal politicians.
Am I the only one who finds this relationship insane?
Carson City is not alone in this lunacy. It was also reported that our city politicians in Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas likewise spent our tax money lobbying our federal politicians.
How this can be tolerated or treated as “business as usual” is everything that is wrong with government – on the local, state and federal levels.
Now I know the argument. After all, it is due to these lobbyists that “we” receive federal funding/monies.
But isn’t that what are elected federal politicians are supposed to do in the first place? The concept that our city and state politicians are spending our tax money on well-connected lawyers/lobbyists/political power brokers is just insane.
No matter how or why it is done; and notwithstanding the so-call alleged positive results, it only adds to this sad, bad joke. There is something so wrong, so bone-headed, so insanely ridiculous that you wonder if the inmates are truly in charge and running the asylum we call “government.”
Even worse, it is all the public’s fault. After all, we gave them the keys when we elected them.
