Nevada Government – One Sad, Bad Joke.
“Nevada Government – One Sad, Bad Joke” is Part 1. of 3 in the series written by The Vegas Voice Publisher Dan Roberts regarding his opinion of the current state of politics in Nevada, and specifically issues affecting the over fifty age community.
If it wasn’t so important and if their collective work did not effect every Nevadan, our state government would be one sad, bad joke.
From our part-time legislature to our lame-duck governor, I wonder how anyone can look at our state government’s operations and not shake their heads and conclude otherwise.
Where shall we start?
There is going to be a $3 billion (that’s billion with a “B”) shortfall come next legislative budget time. This shortfall is approximately 50% of the (already cut-to-the-bone; if you believe the government officials) current State budget.
Yet no one, and we mean not one politician, state official and/or statesman (now that’s a joke) has come up with a meaningful, purposeful idea, theory, plan or word about this financial dilemma.
Don’t get me wrong. We’ve heard politicians respond “parrot-like” to wonderful clichés of “no new taxes”, “a leaner government” or my personal favorite – “working smarter” but no one has had the “courage” to even start a thoughtful debate.
I guess they feel that the public is too stupid or distracted by the summer heat to think about this gigantic elephant-in-the-room problem. The worst part about their calculations – they just might be right.–
