Believe me, seriously. I'm not gloating. It's really the opposite. Everyone at The Vegas Voice thrives on competition, but we just lost another competitor.
The Las Vegas Review Journal's senior "Prime View” monthly newspaper is no more; cancelled after its July issue.
It's no secret that the economy over the past few years have been the worst since the Great Depression. Even more brutal for newspapers.
During this time period, we have witnessed our numerous competitors ( Maturity Today, Senior Press, Loving Life, Nevada Senior Magazine, Simply Seniors, Senior Living Magazine, Prime Plus Magazine; to name a few) cease operations and shut down their publications.
Yet despite such a horrendous economic picture, The Vegas Voice not only now (once again) stands alone, but continues to grow!
Perhaps our growth is due to our terrific columnists. After all, what other publication (whether for seniors or anyone else) makes their readers smile with its wonderful humor and entertainment articles; or makes them think with our political/social commentaries; or gets them to say "I didn't know that" by reading our Health & Financial sections - or even allows them to make new friends and have their vacation dreams come true with our Vegas Voyagers and Vegas Vacationers Travel Clubs ?
And we have not even discussed our semi-annual Expos, fantastic weekly Vegas Voice Radio Show heard on KLAV 1230AM and future entertainment extravaganzas - our "Afternoon Affairs."
Perhaps our popularity is due to our exclusive direct mail/delivery to every "age qualified community" from Sun City Aliante in North Las Vegas to Sun City Anthem in Henderson - and everywhere in between; as well as over 100 distribution (including all libraries and community centers) locations.
Perhaps it's our fierce determination to be "the voice for your health, wealth and good times." That's not some catchy phrase, but our never-ending commitment to the Age 50+ community.
Or perhaps it's a combination of all of the above.
It is therefore with a great deal of pride and indeed humility that as Publisher/Editor, I am very proud to confirm, once again, that while the "other" senior papers disappear, The Vegas Voice is alive, well and growing.
And the best part? You ain't seen nothing yet.
